The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize - The Winner 30th September 2008
Patrick Ness has won this year's Guardian children's fiction prize with his first teenage novel. The Knife of Never Letting Go, about a world where thoughts are audible, beat Jenny Downham's Before I Die, Frank Cottrell Boyce's Cosmic and Siobhan Dowd's Bog Child to take the £1,500 prize.

The Roald Dahl Funny Prize - The Shortlist 9th September 2008
Michael Rosen has created a new book prize celebrating the funniest books for children as part of his work as Children's Laureate.
Administered by national charity Booktrust and supported by the National Year of Reading, the Roald Dahl Funny Prize aims to reward those authors and artists who write and illustrate their books using humour. It will be judged in two categories, for children aged six and under, and children aged seven to 14.

Booktrust Teenage Prize Shortlist Announced 4th September 2008
Launched in 2003 to recognise and celebrate contemporary fiction written for teenager, the prize (which is judged by a mixed panel of adults and teenagers) has in the words of former judge Matt Whyman 'fast become the benchmark for quality young people's fiction in the UK.'.

Branford Boase 2008 Winner Announced 10th July 2008
Before I Die by Jenny Downham, edited by David Fickling and published by David Fickling Books, has won the Branford Boase Award, awarded for an outstanding debut novel for children. Managing to be both heart breaking and life-affirming, it is the story of a girl trying desperately to fit a life time of experiences into the few weeks left before she dies.

Philip Reeve has won the 2008 CILIP Carnegie Medal with Here Lies Arthur, whilst Emily Gravett has picked up the 2008 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal with Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears.
