Public Lending Right Figures .... July 2005 - June 2006

Children's writer Jacqueline Wilson has retained her crown as the most borrowed author in UK libraries for the forth year running, Public Lending Right (PLR) announced today.

Figures released today show that Jacqueline, the current Children's Laureate, was only one of 4 authors to notch up over 1 million loans in 2005-2006

With collection of this latest year of data PLR figures now have a decades worth of lending figures with which to provide a '10-year picture' of the nation's reading trends and borrowing data.

The statistics which cover the ten years from 1996-2006 reveal an unlikely duo who have emerged as continual favourites with UK library borrowers. Children's author partnership Janet & Allan Ahlberg and Danielle Steel are the only writers to feature in the Top 10 Most Borrowed Authors list every single year for the past decade.

With total loans over the past 10 years of over 13 million, Jacqueline Wilson just pips the Ahlbergs who over the past 10 years have clocked up loans of over 12 million. They both have a way to go yet to beat the 'Queen of library lending' for the last decade Catherine Cookson has gained a total of 25 million loans over the last 10 years.
