Puffin scores a hat trick . . . Puffin authors have won all three categories at the 26th annual Red House Children's Book Award, presented at the Guardian Hay Festival. The awards were decided by 117,880 votes from children across the UK.
The
Red House Children's Book Award is the only major children’s
book prize in the UK decided by the readers. The award is made annually
to the best work of fiction for children after hundreds of books
have been read, digested and voted for by children. Now in its twenty-sixth year, the award is building on a position strength and recognition with more books being entered and more children taking part than ever before.
The Federation of Children's Book Groups co-ordinates The Red House Children’s Book Award. It acts as an umbrella organisation for autonomous Book Groups across the UK. Children from within these groups carry out initial reviewing, and eventually choose a shortlist of ten that all children can vote on. The Red House Children’s Book Award winner really is the children’s choice. As well as deciding who the overall winner will be, the votes cast by children go towards determining three category winners too. |
