Anthony Horowitz's Ark Angel has won the British Book Award for Children's Book of the Year. Great timing for the Alex Rider series as Stormbreaker the movie is due for cinema release this summer. Elsewhere in the 'Nibbies' JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was named Book of the Year.
On receiving her award Rowling said "I'm delighted that Harry Potter continues to give so much pleasure to adults and children".

It was the battle of young spys in the Children's award shortlist as Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider was pitted against Charlie Higson's young James Bond. Other shortlisted titles included Eldest by Christopher Paolini, Wizardology by Dugald Steer, I, Coriander by Sally Gardner and Louise Rennison's popular title "...and that's when it fell off in my hand".
The Awards were announced at London's Grosvenor House Hotel during a ceremony hosted by Richard and Judy.
You can see the ceremony on television Saturday 1st April at 6:00pm on Channel 4. Digital viewers can also catch the repeat on More4 on Sunday 2nd April at 5:00pm. |
