The final installment of Philip Reeve's Hungry Cities series, A Darkling Plain has won the 2006 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize.The award was set up in 1967 and is the only children's book award made to writers by their fellow authors and sticking with tradition this year's prize was judged by Charlie Higson, Francesca Simon and 2005 winner Kate Thompson. |

The award has a tradition of giving a customised award to the winner of the Children's Fiction prize," said literary editor Claire Armitstead, who every year selects something special to match the winning book, This year Philip Reeve was presented with limited edition artwork made from a decorated USB removable memory stick, which had been pre-loaded with reviews of the book by the winners of the Young Critics competition. |
